[ANTIPHONAL LEAF] Antiphonal leaf on vellum.
Likely Low Countries, circa 1500. From a finely illuminated antiphonal, the text for the Assumptio Mariae (August 15) beginning "Congaudent angelorum chori gloriosae virgini," recto with a large historiated initial "C" of Mary attended by angels and overlooked by the Trinity, the text with an exceedingly attractive border of flowers and fruits. 16 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches (30 x 42.5 cm); 2 pp., 11 lines of plainchant on a four-line staff of black ink, text well-written in a textura rotunda with initial letters in red and blue. Framed.
