A Very Fine Pair of Japanese Bronze and Mixed Metal Usubata Vases
Meiji period
Of four-part construction and with removable fish-form handles; the tripod stand with bottle gourds and applied silver blossoms cast atop a wide, shakudo-inset base and supporting an openwork cupped rim and the cylindrical vases, each cast with reserves showing warriors fighting in and near the sea; the wide inset rims show cranes flying above shakudo-inset pine branches. Height 18 3/4 inches.

Patinated surface, but possibly polished at one point; stem of one rim slightly bent (not visible when assembled); signs of age and wear throughout but largely without issue.
