London: Chapman and Hall, 1874. First edition. Publisher's orange decorated cloth. 7 3/4 x 5 inches; vi, 337 pp.; half-title. Spine sunned, generally rubbed and a bit soiled, wear to extremities, endpapers renewed.
Scarce. "The author claims the preeminent sporting area in India to be the Mirzapore district in central India. He describes a hankwa, or beat, after tigers in considerable detail, and additional encounters with leopards. After crossing the Soane River, the shooting party continued to Ghurwar where tigers were hunted from a machan. While the writer provides his own hunting experiences, he also relates numerous stories from other sportsmen focusing on hunting bear, rogue elephant, and the like" (Czech). Czech, Asia, p. 2.
