Featuring a Wide Range of Affordable Paintings, Drawings, Sculpture and Prints
Examples by American, European, Asian and Latin American Artists of the 20th and 21st Centuries
NEW YORK, NY -- Following the recent successful sales in the new category of Fine Modern Art, Doyle held the third auction on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. Seasoned collectors and new buyers vied for a wide spectrum of affordable paintings, drawings, sculpture and fine prints. Represented were regions of the globe and artistic movements spanning over one hundred years of creative activity.
Highlighting the sale was a 1960 work on paper by German/French artist Hans Hartung (1904-1989) that achieved $31,250, surpassing its estimate of $15,000-25,000. Property of the Estate of a Gentleman, Park Avenue and Southampton, New York, P1960-48 was a fine example of the artist’s gestural abstract style.
Strong competition sent a group of 13 collotypes by Austrian artist Egon Schiele (1890-1918) sailing to $20,000, many times over their estimate of $4,000-6,000. They were from a set of prints, originally numbering 15, of figure drawings by the artist published in 1920 in an edition of 510.
A colorful watercolor by Abstract Epressionist Paul Jenkins (1923-2012) doubled its estimate of $5,000-7,000, fetching $13,125. The work embodied Jenkins' ability to flow saturated bands of color across the surface in an organic way, resulting in various shades of transparency.
