Pair of Louis XV Style Ormolu-Mounted Black-Painted Commodes
After Charles Cressent
Each serpentine brèche d'Alep marble top above a bombé case fitted with two drawers with rocaille and floral garland mounts, scrolling foliate handles and palm fronds, raised on cabriole legs ending in lion-paw feet. Height 36 inches (91.5 cm), width 57 1/2 inches (146 cm), depth 27 inches (68.6 cm).

Provenance:
Jean Philippe Hussard Antiques, Paris.

These commodes are after similar models by one of the most important French ébénistes of the second quarter of the 18th century, Charles Cressent (1685-1768). A group of several similar models with palm frond and dragon mounts are identified as les commodes à palmes croisés et dragonsby Alexandre Pradère, Charles Cressent, Dijon, 2003, p. 154.

Good restored condition, later painted decoration, rubbing to gilding of mounts, age cracks to sides, minor chips to edges, minor perishing to painted decoration; underside of both marble tops with shipping labels marked Parish Hadley.
