Marble Head of Hermes
Late Hellenistic or early Roman Imprerial, circa 1st Century B.C./1st Century A.D., after a Greek work of the 5th Century B.C.
Perhaps from the Hermes Propylaius of Alkemenes, with long thick beard and moustache, incised irises, drilled pupils (now filled in), and furrowed brow, his hair arranged in three rows of spiral curls over the forhead. Height 13 inches (33 cm).
