Marble sculpture on base, back signed Santarelli Emilio. Height 26 1/2 inches (67.3 cm).

The Florentine sculptor Emilio Santarelli (1801-1886) received a stipend to study under Bertel Thorvaldson in Rome in 1824. He returned to work in Florence where, amongst other commissions, completed a statue of Michelangelo for the Uffizi in 1840.
