NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held an auction of Photographs on December 13, 2018 showcases images spanning the early period of the medium up to the present day. Among the offerings were examples by Robert Adams, Eugene Atget, Lewis Baltz, Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Henri Cartier-Bresson, William Eggleston, Peter Henry Emerson, Lalla Essaydi, Robert Mapplethorpe, Steven Meisel, Andrew Moore, Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Weston, Charlie White and Francesca Woodman.
With competitive bidding in the saleroom, on the telephones and via the Internet, the auction totaled $437,094 against an estimate of $414,800-624,100, with a strong 77% sold by lot and 87% sold by value.
The Collection of Anne Horton
Featured in the sale was property from the Collection of Anne Horton, a pioneering expert in photography during its formative years as an auction house category. Highlights included Robert Mapplethorpe’s (1946-1989) large-format photogravure, Irises, edition of 27, as well as works by such photographers as Baron Adolf de Meyer and Norman Parkinson and inscribed photographic literature.
