First edition, a presentation copy with letter from the author bound in. 20th-century half maroon cloth over marbled boards, original green printed wrappers bound in. 61 pp.; folding map, frontispiece, 14 plates. Head and foot of spine chipped, rubbed, front free endpapers detached. With embossed library stamp of Long Island Historical Society to title and final leaves, and ink deaccession stamp of Brooklyn Historical Society to copyright page.
Presentation copy from the author to Henry E. Pierrepont, commonly known as the "first citizen of Brooklyn." Pierrepont and his father played a significant role in planning the city of Brooklyn, establishing ferry service to Manhattan, and founding Green-Wood Cemetery.
