Japanese Satsuma Covered Vase

The ovoid shape tapering to the foot raised on three bracket feet, the body worked in relief, painted in gold and colored enamels with a scene of Arhats, shi shi, tiger and dragon in a landscape between colored diaper bands at the foot and rim, the domed lid with further diaper patterning and a chrysanthemum for knop, base signed Great Japan Satsuma, Hododen. Height 16 3/4 inches.
