, being Reminiscences of Forts Sumter and Moultrie in 1860-61, NY, 1876, and Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, NY, 1883. Both first editions in original publisher's cloth, inscribed. Both with repairs; Together with a family album of carte-de-visites, including a portrait of General Doubleday in uniform, a portrait of F.N. Doubleday as a small boy, and others.
Abner Doubleday was an important Union General in the Civil War - he fired the first shot in defense of Fort Sumter and was pivotal at Gettysburg - and he is also credited as a founding father of the game of baseball. Abner was first cousins to William E. Doubleday, to whom these volumes are inscribed, father of F.N. Doubleday. Inscribed copies of his books are rare.
