French 15th Century Manner
Philip the Bold, Duke of Burgundy and Isabella of Portugal, Duchess of Burgundy: Two
Oil on canvas
21 x 17 3/8 inches (53.4 x 44.2 cm)
These two portraits appear to belong to a series depicting the ducal House of Burgundy. Phillip the Bold (Philippe le Hardi, 1342-1405) was the grandfather of Philip the Good (Philippe le Bon, 1395-1467), to whom Isabella of Portugal (1397-1471) was married in 1430. She became the mother of her husband's successor, Charles the Bold (Charles le Temeraire, 1433-1477).
