The attribution has been confirmed by Professor Dominique Breme, Director of the Musee National de l'Ile de France and a noted authority on de Troy's work, who has examined the painting in person. The frame, which is thought to be original, was regilt around 1880; it is signed by the gilder Poulin Villeroy Doreur along the side.

Glue relined. In very good condition. Some touches of restoration to the hands and clothing; a few tiny touches at the lower edge of the chin.
