Chinese Celadon Glazed Charger
Early Ming Dynasty
Of foliate shape, the heavily potted fluted sides rising from a low foot rim to the everted barbed rim, the interior carved in low relief with a faint central leafy floral spray below the ribbed cavetto, covered overall with a thick olive green glaze, continuing over the molded foot rim onto the base, the underside with an unglazed ring burnt orange in the firing. Diameter 11 3/8 inches.
Provenance:
Tage Grönwall (1903-1988). The Swedish envoy and ambassador to Japan (1956-1962) at which time he acquired this item whilst stationed in Tokyo during the 1950s and early 1960s, thence by descent.
