Napoleon III Style Gilt-Metal Mounted Brass and Tortoise Shell Inlaid Box
Late 19th/early 20th century, in the Boulle style
The stepped rectangular hinged top decorated with a reserve depicting Venus in a chariot pulled by swans and attended by cupids beneath a baldequin, opening to a plain interior, the sides decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves, on leaf decorated peg feet. Height 6 inches, width 12 3/4 inches, depth 9 3/4 inches.

Additional Notes & Condition Report

One of the main front metal mounts is detached but it present; one of the smaller metal mounts on the front left facing side of the lid is missing a screw or nail is consequently loose; some lifting and losses to the brass and other inlay; there is evidence of previous professional repair and restoration; there is an area of loss along the front center rim area of the cover; the box opens and closes properly; no locking key; there ae a few splits to the bottom wood base board
