Chinese Black Pottery Figure of a Caparisoned Horse
Northern Wei Dynasty
Modeled standing foursquare upon four thin legs on a rectangular base, the slender head with flared nostrils and pricked ears fitted with a bridle, the back covered with a wide flaring saddle blanket incised with stylized floral detailing, the chest collar applied with molded tufts, and crouper that continues under the long narrow tail. Height 11 1/4 inches.
The result of Oxford thermoluminescence test no. C103p78 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
