Two Chinese Neolithic Painted Pottery Jars
Neolithic Period/ Banshan Culture
Each globular body tapering sharply towards a flat foot, painted around the shoulder in red and black pigments, one with circular medallions enclosing diamond and crosshatch designs on a geometric ground, between two loop handles and below a waisted neck rising to an everted rim applied with linear bosses; the other painted with bold diagonal lines on a fishnet ground interrupted by lug handles on the lower body, the short neck painted with a zigzag pattern flanked by a pair of loop handles. Height of taller 12 3/4 inches.
