Chinese Neolithic Painted Pottery Jar
Neolithic Period, Banshan Culture
The sharply tapering body rising from a flat base to rounded shoulders and a short flaring neck, painted on the shoulder with four circular medallions decorated with cross-hatched lines and encircled by freely painted concentric bands, flanked by two applied loop handles at the mid section and below geometric motifs and bands at the neck and on the interior mouth rim. Height 16 1/2 inches.
