François de Tournon (1489 - 1562), a French nobleman and Augustinian canon, was an important advisor and diplomat for Francis I, for which service he was rewarded with several bishoprics and in 1530 a Cardinal's hat. He later commanded the French army in Provence. In 1560 he retired to Rome, where he became dean of the Sacred College. He was also notable as a patron of Erasmus of Rotterdam and the founder of a Jesuit academy in his home town of Tournon-sur-Rhone.
