Bevelled gray boards, upper cover with design in gilt, faux parchment spine; in the excessively rare paper dust jacket, which repeats the cover design in maroon, and is lettered with the title and author at the foot of the spine. Housed in a later leather-backed slipcase and chemise. 7 5/8 x 5 inches (19.5 x 13 cm); vii, 333, (3); 8 pp. ads at rear. The front joint (always frail on this book) is cracked, with a short crack at the rear. The jacket has a loss at the head of the spine, various other defects, but is substantially complete.
