Known as "the painter of Venice," Reyna was born in Malaga and studied there at the School of Fine Art. In 1882 he received a pension for further study in Italy, but Venice was the subject of his art throughout the rest of his life. In this painting, his view is from San Trovaso, the boat-building section of Venice, looking across the canal where the domes of Basilica of St. Mark's are visible.

Frame rubbing. There is scattered inpaint in the sky. There is also some scattered inpaint in the trees and buildings at the center. There is no further restoraton visible under Uv light.
