Original cloth-backed marbled boards, with front wrapper bound in, (though this is not the issue binding, it is presumably some form of presentation binding, given the placement of the inscription). 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (22 x 14.5 cm); , x, 17-133 pp. (as issued), with frontispiece portrait, eight chromolithograph plates and five folding maps (four hand-colored). A promotional piece for Texas settlement. Inscribed copies by this important Texas governor (1878-1883) are quite rare. Among his other accomplishments, he sat on the Texas Supreme Court, and was largely responsible for founding the University of Texas, at which he taught law for ten years after his retirement.
