Competitive Bidding on Works Throughout the Sale
On November 10, 2010, Doyle New York held a successful auction of American Art. The sale showcased works by a wide variety of prominent American artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. Strong competitive bidding from the salesroom, the telephones and the Internet drove prices throughout the sale.
The top lot of the auction was Harriet Whitney Frishmuth’s 1912 bronze fountain, Joy of the Waters, that sold for $110,500. Two brilliant Floral Still Lifes by the Sea by Russian/American artist David Burliuk fetched $80,500 and $68,500, respectively. Selling very strongly was Herbert Haseltine’s bullfighting bronze, Un Puyazo, that achieved $62,500.
