International Competition Resulted in Strong Prices Throughout the Sale
On May 5, 2010, Doyle New York held a successful auction of Modern & Contemporary Art. The sale showcased paintings, drawings and sculpture by important European, American, Latin American and Asian artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. The top lot of the sale was Black and Grey, an abstract circa 1958 by Spanish artist Jose Guerrero, which sold for $98,500 to a buyer from Spain. With competitive international bidding from the salesroom, the telephones and the Internet, the sale totaled $747,000 – within the pre-sale estimate of $694,700-1,058,800, with a strong 79% sold by lot and 89% sold by value.
