Alexander Montgomerie, Earl of Eglinton, fought with the Scottish parliamentarians in the English Civil War and later took part in negotiating the restoration of the the Stewart monarchy. His daughter, Lady Euphemia Montgomerie, was married to the Jacobite writer, politician and spy, George Lockhart of Carnwath.
