, engraved document with manuscript annotations, appointing Alexander R. Thompson as a Major of the Sixth Regiment of Infantry, effective April 4, 1832. Single vellum sheet with affixed seal, 17 1/4 x 13 1/4 inches (44 x 34 cm), with two engraved vignettes, secretarially annotated with details of the appointment, signed by Andrew Jackson as President below the main text at right, and by Lewis Cass as Secretary of War. Originally folded in sixths (as usual), vellum slightly wrinkled and toned. The signature of Cass is weak.
