Transitional Louis XV/XVI Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Marquetry Inlaid Walnut Side Cabinet
Late 19th century
The serpentine-shaped mottled mauve, white and apricot marble top with rounded corners and a molded edge, above a conforming case enclosing a frieze drawer and a pair of cupboard doors, decorated with floral spray, bearded male mask and scrolling acanthus leaves, raised on cabriole legs with 18th century style female busts on the knees and ending in chutes and sabots, lockplate engraved Fontainebleau. Height 42 3/4 inches, width 48 inches, depth 18 3/4 inches.

appears to retain all of the mounts; wear and dulling to the gilding on the mounts; retains one key that appears to be original and works on both the frieze drawer as well as the cabinet door below
some small areas of veneer loss around the outer edges of the cabinet doors but there are also some additional veneer losses elsewhere and also veneer restoration; the backboard has spaces on either side of a central vertical board, which does not appear to be due to age shrinkage, consequently, the backboard may be a later replacement
