Art Nouveau jewelry, at its height at the turn of the 20th century, took its inspiration from nature, as well as Japanese themes. These delicate clips demonstrate the combination of these two themes in their abstraction of flowing organic forms by using a Plique-a-Jour enameling technique. Plique-a-jour, French for " open to light" was a tool used by Art Nouveau jewelers to juxtapose light and dark, and create a miniature stained glass window in their creations.
