Lot Details

Lot 3031
[CHAGALL, MARC] Les sept peches capitaux.
Paris: Simon Kra, [1926]. First edition, [presumably one of 300 copies]. Original wrappers, printed in green and black. 10 inches (25 cm). Title, 184 pp., plus fifteen etchings with dry point by Marc Chagall, each with tissue guard sheet. Wrappers a bit soiled, spine somewhat worn, text slightly shaken, overall a rather nice copy, with the plates clean.
The text, based on the seven deadly sins, has essays by Jean Giraudoux, Paul Morand, Pierre Mac Orlan, Andre Salmon, Max Jacob, Jacques de Lacretelle, and Joseph Kessel. The colophon leaf seems never to have been bound into this copy, but this conforms with the velin issue, limited to 240 copies. Skira 45; Cramer 7 etc.

Estimate: $4,000 - $6,000
