Persimmon was a British Thoroughbred race horse, whose career lasted from June 1895 to July 1897, in which he won seven out of nine races. His victories included the 1896 Epsom Derby, the St. Leger Stakes, the Ascot Gold Cup and the Eclipse Stakes.

Glue relined. Dense old varnish layer; difficult to interpret under UV light. Some lines and contours appear to have been reinforced. Touches of restoration to the jockey's face and to the shadows on his clothing.
