Although this work has been traditionally attributed to Civerchio, it has been suggested that it is closer to the work of Francesco de Tatti, an artist active in Varese and Milan during the early sixteenth century.

Scattered inpaint throughout, especially in the sky; contours and shadows on the figures of Christ and St. John the Baptist have been reinforced; the clouds appear to have been restored.
