Set of Ten Mintons Pâte-sur-Pâte Porcelain Dinner Plates
The Tina Hills Collection
Decorated by Alboin Birks, retailed by Davis Collamore & Co., Ltd., Fifth Avenue and 48th Street, New York, early 20th century
Rendered in the Neoclassical style, each plate features a plain white center framed by a border containing three blue-ground reserves; each reserve presents a different scene of classical women accompanied by cupids: one group warming themselves by a fire cauldron, another bathing in a fountain, and a third preparing a recipe at a table; the blue-ground panels alternate with richly decorated sections of raised gilt scrolling acanthus leaves, pendant berry clusters, and swags; one reserve on each plate is signed A. Birks in white slip; a gilt company globe stamp and retailer's information appears on the reverse.

Set of Ten:
Two plates present well, however, each has a hairline crack originating at its rim that extends inwards through the border
A third plate presents well, however, it has two hairline cracks originating at its rim that extend inwards through the borders
A fourth plate has what appear to be two very short stained discolored hairlines that are only visible on the underside (border area) and do not appear to go through the body to the top side; the pate-sur-pate reserve on the front side in this area is heavily crazed
Otherwise, each plate appears to be in generally good, undamaged condition; the raised gilding is intact; gilt rims edges and gilt bands appear to be in good condition; the plate centers appear to be pretty much scratch-free; there is wear to the gilding on the foot rings, on the underside, commensurate with age and handling; there is wear to the very thin gilt line that is located at the outer perimeter of the plain centers
Please Note: two additional plates from this set will accompany this lot, however, each of these two plates is now badly broken and/or previously restored
