Auction: Doyle+Design, Jun 24, 2025
NEW YORK, NY -- On June 24, 2025, Doyle hosted a sale in the popular Doyle+Design auction category that saw strong results for a wide range of Modern and Contemporary furniture, art and design by prominent designers, makers and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Art
Highlighting the sale was Vase of Flowers Series X, a vibrant, large-scale painting from 2000 by Peter Max (1937-2023) that soared to $28,800, more than double its $8,000-12,000 estimate. The dynamic composition featured the artist's signature palette of psychedelic hues and energetic brushstrokes. Another standout by Max, Umbrella Man, also performed exceptionally well, realizing $16,640, more than triple its $3,000-5,000 estimate.
Design
The selection of works by Tiffany Studios featured two circa 1915 bronze and leaded glass table lamps that garnered strong results -- a ‘Colonial Faux-Jeweled Band’ table lamp sold for $16,640 and a 'Feather' table lamp realized $15,360, both outperforming their $8,000-12,000 estimates. Art pottery featured a circa 1975-85 glazed and incised earthenware vessel by Claude Conover titled Balinah estimated at $6,000-8,000 that sold for $10,880.
Furniture
Furniture offerings in the sale included a set of eight 'CAB' leather armchairs by Mario Bellini for Cassina, introduced in 1977, that achieved $9,600, far over the $4,000-6,000 estimate. Hans Wegner’s 'Flag Halyard' armchair of enameled and chromed metal with taut flagline also realized $9,600, surpassing its $5,000-8,000 estimate.
