Auction: Contemporary Fine Art, Apr 9, 2026
NEW YORK, NY -- Private collectors across several continents drove exceptional results on April 9, 2026, sending the sale total soaring over expectations. Representing the majority of successful buyers, private collectors competed vigorously for a wide range of affordable paintings, prints and sculpture spanning the Post-War years to the present day by established and emerging artists.
A 1991 watercolor by March Avery (b. 1932) titled Coco in Harem Dress estimated at $3,000-5,000 achieved $28,160—A World Auction Record for a Work on Paper by the Artist. Avery is known for her refined, modernist figurative works often characterized by bold color and elegant simplicity. The strong result reflects the growing market momentum and collector interest in women modernists, whose work has been increasingly recognized and sought after in recent years.
