It has been suggested that this scene actually represents the story of the sin and punishment of Achan, from chapter 7 of the book of Joshua.
Glue relined. Canvas torn and lifting from its relining along the left edge. Some buckling. Scrapes and scattered losses, especially around the edges. Area of restoration (4 x 2 inches) above the body of Holofernes at center left.
