Near contemporary calf over spines and corners, marbled paper boards, black leather spine labels, all edges marbled. 8 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches (21.75 x 13.5 cm); Vol I: [2], xv, [1], 405 pp.; Vol II: [2], iv, 473 pp., engraved frontispiece map in volume I, folding map and illustrations in text in volume II, both volumes with errata slips. Some wear, fading to calf spines, volume I with a small chip to spine label and at the foot of spine, contents with very occasional faint spots, old ownership signature. Adam Hodgson travelled far across North America writing this lively account of his adventures, including his feelings about slavery (which he deplored), the American Indians (which fascinated him), immigrants, comparisons between Canada and the United States, and more. This copy contains not only the two errata slips, which are often wanting, but also the "Appendix" in Volume II, which was added to copies remaining within the author's reach after publication.
