Bronze and Granite Group of the Bronze Horseman
After Etienne-Maurice Falconet
Cast as Peter I on horseback on a pink granite rockwork base, the base with applied gilt-metal inscription to one side: Peter the First / Catherine the Second / 1782 in Russian; to the other side: Petro Primo / Catharina Segunda / MVCCLXXXII. Height 14 1/2 inches (37 cm.), length 13 inches (33 cm.).

Acquired from the family of the above.

Nadia von Krauskopf was a descendant of Ferdinand Krauskopf, founder of Russia's Triangle rubber factory. In the early twentieth century, the factory dominated Russia's rubber industry and earned tremendous profits from the production of galoshes and supplies for heavy industry. Ferdinand Krauskopf was presented with a Fabergé silver mantel clock in November 1907 (sold Christie's, New York, October 19, 2001, lot 116).
