Quarter blue morocco and cloth, morocco fore-edges, blue buckram sides. 11 3/4 x 8 1/2 inches (30 x 21 cm); xxviii, 349, [3] pp.; the frontispiece a pencil signed etching with aquatint by Johns, the etching printed by ULAE and titled "Summer." Some minor soiling to the head of the front board; the prospectus is laid-in.

"This was the second of several Arion books edited and introduced by Vendler, who is considered the foremost scholar and critic of poetry in the United States. It was she who suggested that Hoyem approach Jasper Johns to be the artist for the book" - Bibliography of the Arion Press, 17. The print is thematically part of Johns's series "The Seasons," also produced by ULAE but in 1987, and is a preliminary exploration of the themes represented in those larger prints.
