A collection of U.S. Morgan Dollars comprising three albums in a range of grades, including several Uncirculated and Gem examples, more than tripled its $2,000–2,500 estimate to realize $7,865. Property from the Collection of Joseph M. Murphy featured a 1928 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle and a 1908 No Motto Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle from the Wells Fargo Hoard, each surpassing its estimate to realize $5,142. The selection of ancient coins included a Sicilian silver Tetradrachm from Gela, circa 450-440 BCE, featuring the city’s distinctive bull-headed river god, which sold for $1,694, exceeding its $1,000-1,250 estimate.
Paper Money
The selection of paper money was highlighted by Property from a Commonwealth Avenue Mansion in Boston, MA. A Series 1875 $10 National Bank Note from the Briggs National Bank of Clyde, NY, and an Original Series "Lazy Deuce" $2 National Bank Note from The Saugerties National Bank, NY, (c. 1863–1875) soared past their $200-400 estimates to achieve an identical $1,815. The "Lazy Deuce" note takes its nickname from the large, ornate numeral 2 printed horizontally on its face.
