Original orange cloth backed boards, the upper cover gilt lettered and with a tennis racquet stamped in black. 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (22 x 13.5 cm); 224 pp., plates. Corners and spine rubbed, front hinge loose with the free endpaper detaching, some thumbsoiling and stray stains but clean within, ink signature of Wesley Perkins at front.
A scarce early work on the development of the sport of tennis in America. RBH lists one copy only 1899; we trace no copy among the trade on ABE. This is also an early publication of the Spalding Company, manufacturers of baseball equipment since 1876, and long associated with the sport of tennis.
