The original of this work, now in the Vatican Museum, was finished in 1614 for the Congregation of St. Jerome of Charity for an altar in the church of the same name on the Via Giulia in Rome. The subject is that of St. Jerome, who, ninety years old and at the point of death, is said to have received his last Communion from his companion, St. Eusebius.

This is a 19th or possibly early 20th-century painting. Wax relined. Scattered areas of restoration. Repaired holes and tears in the landscape
