Contemporary brown cloth decorated in gilt and in blind. 5 7/8 x 3 3/4 inches; 224, [5] pp.; frontispiece, 2 woodcut plates of hooks, publisher's advertisements. A bit worn with some loss to extremities, some gilt rubbed away, pale staining to cloth, scattered foxing, gift inscription to front free endpaper, bookplate to rear free endpaper, contemporary annotations to rear pastedown.
The rare first edition of the first angling book written by an American. Bruns B253 ("a very rare item"); Goodspeed, pp. 159-163; Henderson, pp. 66-67; Westwood & Satchell, p. 4; Wetzel, p. 113.
