NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle was honored to auction jewelry from the Estate of Alyce Kalin of Sarasota, Florida, as a highlight of the sale of Important Jewelry on December 12, 2018.
Alyce Kalin and her husband, Ed, opened Kanes furniture store shortly after they were married in 1950, and over the years it developed into an influential design resource for the flourishing community. Alyce applied her keen eye for design and fashion to a new business, The Gilded Lily, a successful fashion and jewelry boutique, where she hosted trunk shows for such designers as Edgar Vos and attracted the attention of Women’s Wear Daily.
Alyce was also a generous and dedicated philanthropist. She served on the board of the Van Wezel Foundation, helping raise money for children’s programs, and co-founded The Designing Women Boutique, a high-end consignment shop that raised money for the arts and children’s organizations. The Kalins also supported the Sarasota-Manatee Arch Family Holocaust Education Center of the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg.
Highlighting the Estate of Alyce Kalin was a group of stylish jewelry by New York designer Henry Dunay. In a career spanning over fifty years, Mr. Dunay created innovative and timeless designs that are equal part jewelry and art. He has been honored with over fifty international awards for his jewelry and is a four-time recipient of the DeBeers Diamonds International Award, the most prestigious award for jewelry design in the industry.
Property from the Estate of Alyce Kalin comprised over 60 lots throughout the December 12 auction.
