NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle's auction of Important Jewelry on Tuesday, October 16,2018 at 10am offered dazzling jewelry by the world’s most prestigious makers, including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, David Webb and Tiffany & Co. The offerings spanned the Antique, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modern eras and included high-carat-weight diamond and colored stone rings, as well as fine watches, gentlemen’s accessories and objets de vertu.

With competitive bidding in the saleroom, on the telephones and via the Internet, the auction totaled an exceptionally strong $5,582,563, surpassing its estimate of $3,655,700-5,234,100, with a robust 87% sold by lot and 89% sold by value.

The auction was highlighted by a group of high-carat-weight diamond and colored stone rings that performed very strongly. From the Estate of Barbara Wainscott was a stunning Fancy Yellow diamond ring, 22.96 carats, VVS2 clarity that achieved $384,500, well over its estimate of $200,000-300,000 estimate. A ring set with a Ceylon sapphire, 46.31 carats, fetched $150,000, also surpassing its estimate of $80,000-120,000.

From the Collection of a Florida Lady was a pair of Fancy Yellow and Fancy Intense Yellow diamond and earclips, 5.89 carats and 5.61 carats, that fetched $187,500, exceeding their estimate of $100,000-150,000. Also featured were classic diamond rings in a variety of cuts and carat weights that also fared strongly at the sale.

A pair of Art Deco 'Tutti Frutti' Clips by Van Cleef & Arpels, France, circa 1930, attracted a great deal of attention, sending the bidding soaring to $87,500, many times their estimate of $20,000-30,000.
