Publisher's green straight-grained cloth stamped in gilt. 10 x 7 inches; 383 pp., illustrated with photogravures after Edward S. Curtis and others, color-tinted plates, in text-illustration, etc. Bindings lightly rubbed with a slight lean, one headcap somewhat frayed, the first tissue-guard nearly detached.
In the summer of 1899, Edward H. Harriman organized the expedition of 25 scientists, authors and photographers to Southern Alaska. These works include 75 photogravures by Curtis. The exhaustive survey ran to twelve volumes but the first two volumes are often found as such.
