[BECKFORD, PETER] Thoughts on Hunting. In a series of familiar letters to a Friend.
Sarum: printed by E. Eastman; London: sold by P. Elmsly et al, 1781. First edition. Nineteenth century full brown morocco with red and green morocco lettering pieces, gilt fox's head stamped in spine compartments and to upper and lower boards, housed in cloth slipcase. 7 3/4 x 6 inches; [10], 334 pp.; retains half-title, engraved frontispiece and 2 plates (one an elevation plan of a kennel). Light spotting and toning, very clean within overall, some rubbed areas on binding.
This well regarded work provides the foundation of modern foxhunting and hound management and is considered "The corner-stone of a huntsman's library" (Gee). This attractively bound copy retains the original half-title.
