The Sala dell'Anticollegio was a sumptuous antichamber for ambassadors waiting to be received by the Collegio, the 26-member body that directed foreign affairs for the Venetian Rupublic. Visible here are some of the paintings that still decorate the room, including Tintoretto's Venus with Bacchus and Ariadne and Minerva Protecting Peace and Prosperity from War. At right. Veronese's Europa and the Bull can also be seen.

The painting has been laid to a triple-thickness board made of a wood panel between two sheets of paperboard. There is a repaired two-inch tear in the floor near the lower right corner. Scattered touches of restoration elsewhere.
