Chinese Zitan and Composite Wood Box and Cover Inset with Cinnabar Lacquer Panels
Qing Dynasty
The foliate shaped box raised on seven short legs and inlaid on the exterior with wire inlay key fret pattern and painted on the interior with black lacquer, the cover inset with a large shaped panel of cinnabar lacquer carved in relief with figures in a landscape on a diaper ground, the sides of the cover applied with four raised, shaped cartouches inset with carved panels of lacquer birds, flowers and rockwork in relief on a diaper ground, the interior with a yellow silk embroidered liner. Length 14 1/4 inches.

cracks to wooden box and cover, one foot missing to the box, gouges and expected wear to exterior base of box, some losses to inside rim of carved lacquer panel on cover, and to framed edge of box cover. Some loss to silver wire inlay.
