Two Similar Chinese Cizhou Jars
Song/Yuan Dynasty
Each of shoulded form, one painted in deep brown on a white slip with panels of cranes amid clouds and grasses reserved on a swirling ground and between loosely drawn foliate bands, all terminating above the unglazed foot; the other painted in deep brown on a white slip with shaped cartouches of a rabbit, scholar and a crane, all in landscapes reserved on a swirling cloud ground between bands of scrolling stylized flowers, later wood lid. Height of taller 7 1/2 inches.
