Maya Widmaier Picasso, on March 26, 1985, and the Comite Picasso, on May 31, 1990, have confirmed the authenticity of this work.

Mercure was a ballet produced by Count Etienne de Beaumont, with music by Erik Satie and decor and costumes by Picasso.

Taped to mat with two small pieces of tape from top verso edges. It appears to have been adhered to a mount from the verso corners and since removed.
